Reverb examines the personal and political significance of personal and media photographs and their meanings as public and private memorials. Images are drawn from Novak's archive of important and little known documentary images of historical events from World War II to the present, and personal imagery including family snapshots, self-portraits, and travel photographs from the same periods. For the audio component, live new updates are streamed from BBC World News and NPR (US National Public Radio). The hourly newscasts are juxtaposed with fragments of historical broadcasts, political speeches, direct news broadcasts, and personal testimonies from online public archives. The audio segments are played randomly making different sound/image permutations each time the piece repeats. [audio sources] This web version of Reverb has been adapted from the computer-based projection presented at Art Sway in the New Forest in Southern England in October and November 2004. [more] |
