When my parents decided to get married, my father couldn't get enough leave time from the Army in California to make it all the way to Texas where my mother lived. So, my parents decided to get married in Tucson, where his parents lived. The heat made the wedding cake melt and tilt to one side, which made my mom's mother cry. My newly married parents escaped from their friends after the reception by climbing over a fence and making a getaway in a friends car. When my mom's brother passed away, she went to spend a couple of months with her family. While she was gone, Dad planted fruit trees, roses and various plants to create a nice front yard complete with a wooden fence. He also grew a beard. Mom was surprised when he met her at the airport with his beard! It was shaved off within a week.
